Take me back to 1906

Welcome to our home! We purchased this beauty in 1997 for the amazing price of $36,000. She was built in the golden year of 1906. By the time we found her, she came complete with fallen plaster ceilings and (sun bleached) rose colored carpeting, which coordinated (not really) with her psychedelic wall colors. She also bestowed a (gross) 1970's kitchen with (greasy) plastic wood cupboards, (grimy) yellow appliances, (hole ridden) dark wood paneling and (dirty) red wall to wall shag carpeting. Not really our design style, but she managed to keep her dignity by maintaining her extensive original quartersawn oak woodwork, along with her beveled and stained glass windows. I have to admit, the first time I walked through her massive oak doors I didn't notice any of her "inadequacies". My husband on the other hand  ...  well, he noticed! I fell in love the second I stepped into her entrance hall (I always dreamed of having an entrance hall) and saw her beautiful staircase. I really didn't need to see anymore in order to make my decision to claim her. While I was envisioning her in original glory, my hubby was envisioning all of the work that was in his future ...  for many, many, many etc... (you get the idea) ...years to come.

It is now 2011 and the work continues, but all the years of restoration have been well worth the effort ( my hubby sometimes wonders though). Through this blog, I will be sharing some of our past, present and future efforts to bring our old beauty back to 1906. A true story of Pure SerenFlipIty!
